Following last Saturday's All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primary in Ondo state, varieties and false rumours have been circulating the social media, put together by roadside and incompetent journalists, claiming one of the primary aspirants and respected politician, Chief Jamiu Afolabi Ekungba referred to Ondo people as bastard and betrayals. The post also goes further by stating falsely that the politician claimed they collected over N300million from him and only gave him 44 Votes.
In this short and exclusive phone interview with Chief Ekungba's media aide, Olakunle Omosanya, he bares his mind on the position of Chief Ekungba regarding this fake rumour.
Mr Omosanya, what would you say about the rumour circulating the social media claiming your boss, Chief Ekungba called the people of Ondo state bastards?
Chief Jamiu afolabi EKUNGBA NEVER gave any money what-so-ever to any of the 2834 delegates that voted on Saturday, so if he did not doze out his money to the delegates why would he complain. He didn't share #1Million talk less of N300 million. He has consistently made it cleared during TV, Radio interviews and during his campaign's to the delegates in all the wards of the 18 LGA that make up Ondo state. He made it very clear that he will not induce anybody with money to vote for him. He has constantly asked the delegates "Why will I bribe people to give me a job that will require so much energy to bring back to life an economy that is almost dead totally. An economy PDP had battered to a state of near bankruptcy or comma"!!!
I hope you are aware that Ondo state an oil producing state despite collecting about N628 billion federal allocation in 7 (seven) years of this administration is owing the civil servants 8 (eight) months salaries.
Chief Ekungba is an accomplished Accountant, an experienced Banker and Administrator therefore a financial expert. He understand the state of Ondo State Economy and what it will take to fix it. So he will therefore because of the challenges that will accompany the fixing not bribe his way to offer his people this type of very difficult service.
Once more I want to restate that Chief Jamiu Afolabi Ekungba NEVER offer anybody including the 2834 delegates ANY MONEY to vote for him. If he refused to give his money to the delegates, why would he have accused Ondo state people or the delegates of betrayal? so there can not be a way he will call Ondo state people Names.
The mischievous write up claimed that Chief Ekungba stormed out of the venue. The video clips of the primary election will show that he was the 1st person to congratulate the winner Barr. Akeredolu SAN and he was the last aspirant with him in the arena, he was with him through out the final announcement, when Barr. Akeredolu was shaking hands with the officials, giving his acceptance speech and during his brief press interview. So doing all these, how can his coming out be called storming out?!!! or does that mischief maker want him to sleep in the arena after the program and after everybody had left?Anyway we have done appropriate refuter of this, and we assured Ondo state people that my principal Chief Ekungba never granted such interview and we have consulted appropriate personnel and quarter to assist getting this mischief maker to come to terms with the reality of his misdeeds.
The news is not only a falsehood but a devilish act.
It is on record as broadcasted live on the election day that Chief Jamiu Afolabi Ekungba was one of the few aspirants who embraced and congratulated Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN after his votes were counted at the election venue.
It is a well known to the delegates and members of APC in Ondo state, that Chief Ekungba is one of the few aspirants who did not dole out money to delegates prior to the election day apart from the #5,000 feeding and transportation allowance he gave to them. In addition to this, Chief Ekungba have at every given opportunity condemned and campaign against moneybags politics and he will never give out #300 Million to delegates to buy their conscience or votes.
The road side journalist or rumour-mongers did a poor job trying to drag the name and integrity of Chief Afolabi Ekungba into disrepute. Chief Ekungba never said it and there was no national dailies or TV stations who reported the said statement
How does your boss welcome the victory of Barrister Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN)?
Very well, happy and delighted. It is on record as broadcasted live on the election day that Chief Jamiu Afolabi Ekungba was one of the few aspirants who embraced and congratulated Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN after his votes were counted at the election venue.
Chief Jamiu Afolabi Ekungba also met with his campaign team few hours after the primary election and he directed them to work assiduously for the victory of the party's candidate.
Lastly, Mr Omosanya, your advice and parting wish to the good people of Ondo state
Anyway we have done appropriate refuter of this, and we assured Ondo state people that my principal Chief Ekungba never granted such interview and we have consulted appropriate personnel and quarter to assist getting this mischief maker to come to terms with the reality of his misdeeds.
We urge the people of Ondo State to disregard the wicked rumour and to note that Chief Afolabi Ekungba respect and love the people of Ondo State, and that, as a respected leader, a BoT member of APC representing Ondo state, a Duke and a kingmaker in Owo kingdom he is too refined to speak rudely to his people.
