The Chairperson of the Governing Council, Federal University, Otuoke, Senator Gbemisola Saraki, says the institution is lagging behind in facilities and equipment.
Saraki stated this during the maiden meeting of the newly-constituted governing council of the university.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Seth Jaja, members of the council, as well as representatives of the Academic Staff Union of Universities and the Student Union Government, among others, attended the meeting.
The Chairperson said, “Honestly, I am sad to see what I saw today after four years, especially when you look at all other sister universities. The expectation is that by now, we would have gone beyond this level and move much further.
“As you can see, we do not have the facilities on the ground. We do not have the buildings and the equipment. Surely, we just have to start all over again and chase after our contractors who have withdrawn from site. The university is just lagging behind.
“We have students that want to come in, we have lecturers and people on the ground, but we just do not have the facilities in which to accommodate them.”
Saraki, who said the council had taken stock of what was on the ground, noted that its vision was to make university one of the foremost ivory towers in the country.
