A group of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) members loyal to the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff-led faction of the party in the North-East has declared its support for the party’s candidate picked by the Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee for the next Ondo State governorship election, Mr. Tayo Jegede.

The group, which identified itself as PDP Like Minds, North-East chapter, had earlier withdrawn its support for the winner of the party’s primary conducted by the Sheriff-led faction, Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim,

The group said although it still pledged its allegiance to Sheriff as the PDP national chairman, it would rather throw its weight behind Jegede because of his integrity.

The Legal Adviser of the Sheriff-led faction in Adamawa State, Chief Crowther Seth, who spoke on behalf of the group, said

“Even though we have internal crisis within the party, that does not mean that we would throw our chances of winning the Ondo State governorship election away. Jegede is a candidate that any party can use to win any election. We know him more than the people of Ondo State.”

This is just as Jegede urged aggrieved members of the PDP to sheathe their swords in the interest of the party.

Jegede, who made the appeal in Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State, said, “Irrespective of what is in the public domain regarding  a purported division within our great party, we must tell the whole world that we are united while the minor disagreements will be resolved in no distant time.

“This is how to tell the opposition parties in Ondo State that there is no vacancy for them at the Alagbaka Government House.

“Let us all come together to enable us to emerge victorious in November.”

Meanwhile, the Peoples Party of Nigeria governorship candidate in the state, Temidola Orunmoluyi, has said that the party will defeat the PDP and the All Progressives Congress in the poll.
