Thirty-five people including referee injured after lightning strikes football pitch

Thirty-five people have been injured after lightning struck a football pitch in Germany.Four people are believed to have been seriously hurt after lightening struck during a children's football game in Hoppstadten, western Germany.

The referee is reported to have been one of those injured.

The lightening struck directly after the final whistle at around 2pm this afternoon local time (1pm UK time).

An air ambulance and paramedics were called to the grass pitch used by youth team SV Eintracht Hoppst├Ądten.

Storm Elvira hit western Germany on Friday, bringing torrential rain and hail and flooding roads in some areas.

It. comes on the same day as four children were left fighting for life after being struck by lightening at a birthday party in a park in Paris.

A total of 10 children were injured after being struck in Parc Monceau in the north-west of the city at around 3pm this afternoon local time (2pm UK time).

Local media reports stated at least one child was seen being given CPR at the scene.
