Unmarried couples in Florida can now legally live together thanks to the repeal of a 148-year-old law signed Wednesday by the state’s governor.

The repeal, reported by the Orlando Sentinel, passed the state’s legislature with only five dissenting votes. The crime was almost never prosecuted, but the law repealed this week classified “lewd” and “lascivious” co-habitation as a second-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to 60 days in jail or a $500 fine.

The repeal leaves Michigan and Mississippi as the only states that still ban co-habitation without marriage.
