Ekiti State government, yesterday, said the activities of the Department of State Service (DSS) in the state have created uncertainty, fear and intimidation.
Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Modupe Alade, said this during an interview in Akure.
Alade was quick to declare, however, that the people of the state would “resist by all means any attempt by Federal Government to truncate democracy in Ekiti”.
She was speaking in reaction to the continued detention of four members of the state House of Assembly by the DSS despite a court order to release them.
She alleged that “a list of some state EXCO members to be arrested were being circulated all over ?the state”.
”It is quite unfortunate that the Federal government has kept mute over this illegality,”the SSG stated.
“People now discuss in hush tones that the DSS officials are in the state to arrest and bundle more legislators and also some EXCO member, the SSG inclusive.
”All these we know are being done to Governor Fayose and those that are close to him because of his critical stance on the Federal Government and we are yet to see a new Constitution in Nigeria that makes speaking one’s mind on national issues, a crime.
”In spite of all these embarrassment and violation of our ?fundamental right, I wish to affirm our unalloyed support for the leadership of Governor Ayodele Fayose.
”We will all stand by him and protect the mandate freely given to him by the people of Ekiti. ” Therefore, I wish to strongly appeal to all well-meaning Nigerians to advice the Federal Government to leave us alone in Ekiti and face the work of giving Nigerians the change they deserve.
”If they do not like the face of our governor, must they also incarcerate all of us that are loyal to him?.”
