Ekiti State Executive Committee of All Progressives Congress, APC, has suspended Governor Kayode Fayemi.
Governor Fayemi was accused of working against the APC in the recently concluded governorship election in Edo state.
A statement by the party on Friday said the governor was suspended due to “his numerous anti-party activities,
especially his role in the recently concluded governorship election in Edo State,
which is contrary to the provisions of Article 21 (A) (ii) of the APC Constitution.”
They accused Fayemi of conniving with a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Femi Fani- Kayode,
to “perfect the coup against” APC in Edo state.
It alleged that the APC defeat in the Edo state governorship election was celebrated by Governor Fayemi’s aides in the Ekiti state government house and on social media.
The APC also accused Fayemi of supporting the PDP governorship candidate, Seyi Makinde in the Oyo State 2019 elections.
In addition, the Ekiti state governor was accused of standing against the nomination of late Senator Abiola Ajimobi as the deputy national chairman of the APC.
According to the Ekiti APC, Fayemi is fraternising with the PDP with the aim of getting the
party’s vice-presidential ticket should his bid for the presidency in the APC fails in 2023.
