Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu declared on Tuesday the establishment of a Trust Fund to compensate the families of victims of police brutality in the state.
Sanwo-Olu’s media aide, Gawat Jubril, said the Trust Fund
“will be completely supervised by Civil Society Organisation (CSO) appointed by members of the public.”
Nigerians have taken to the streets in Abuja, Oyo, Lagos, Edo,
and several other states around the world to demand an end to the country’s police violence.
The protest that began in Lagos seven days ago was a call for the complete scrapping of the notorious
FSARS police units.
Despite the scrapping of the police unit, Nigerians continue to seek a complete overhaul of the police
and justice for those who have fallen victim to harassment by the members of the service.
